Modern Warfare 4 follows a fixed sequence of 16 campaign missions, alternating Park's Korean storyline with Price's operations in New York, Paris, and Mumbai. Completed chapters can be replayed, and finishing the story awards eight Operators, XP items, and cosmetic rewards. Most collectibles are concentrated in Following Orders, Stranded, and Escape. For players planning sessions after the campaign, Bot Lobby MW4 is a separate option to review for multiplayer session planning.

1 How the 16-Mission Campaign Progresses

The campaign follows a set order rather than letting you choose a branch. Once a mission is completed, you can replay it through mission selection to revisit a challenge or search for anything you missed.

The story alternates between Park and South Korean forces in Korea and Price's operations in New York, Paris, and Mumbai. That shift moves the action between large battles, close-range encounters, covert sequences, and more open exploration.

Mission rewards also carry into other modes through Operators, XP items, and cosmetics. Collectibles help with achievement and trophy progress, but you don't need them to reach Greater Good.

2 Set a Route for Story and Cleanup

For a first run, follow the mission order and match your pace to the difficulty. Save extra exploration time for chapters with optional items, then replay completed missions to clean up missed objectives.

Campaign Planning Choices

Campaign Choice
Recommended Use
Mission order
Follow the fixed story sequence
Difficulty
Choose based on comfort with exposure and combat pressure
Collectible focus
Search Following Orders, Stranded, and Escape
Mission replay
Return for missed items or challenges
Lower difficulty settings allow more direct movement through many encounters. On higher settings, exposure is more dangerous, so controlled advances and tactical equipment matter more.

Concentrate collectible searches in the three named missions instead of combing every linear chapter. That focus saves time while still covering the campaign's Notes and other optional finds.

Plan mission-specific achievements before starting a chapter, especially when they depend on a particular encounter or difficulty. If a challenge is missed, replay that mission rather than restarting the campaign.

3 Mission List and Completion Rewards

This list pairs all 16 missions with their story focus and stated completion reward. Use it to track progress without mixing up Operators, XP items, and cosmetics.

The campaign's order links Park's frontline story with Price's operations, so changes in setting also bring changes in combat pace. The reward column shows which chapters provide Operators and which award XP or cosmetics.

Opening Missions: Mayhem to Hired Gun

Mayhem introduces Park's side of the conflict, while Out in the Cold and Hired Gun advance Price's story. Following Orders is the early chapter to approach slowly because it contains optional Notes and contraband.

Keep the chapter challenges in mind: Mayhem's airborne targets and Out in the Cold's kitchen condition depend on how you handle those encounters. Hired Gun's train-car challenge also calls for deliberate positioning during its moving sequence.

Changing Fronts: Losing Ground to Assassins

This stretch alternates battlefield pressure with Price's city operations. Losing Ground and Assassins return attention to Korea, while Traffic and Gone Dark move Price's story through Paris and Mumbai.

Use the reward list to track what each chapter adds to your account. The fixed order keeps the story moving, while replay is available for challenge cleanup after a first run.

Exploration and Counteroffensive: Survivors to Counter Attack

Survivors leads toward Stranded, the campaign's broadest exploration chapter. Defection and Counter Attack return to more directed combat, so give Stranded its own search time rather than rushing through its optional areas.

Separating story progress from collectible cleanup helps you budget time. You can complete the main objectives first and return to a finished chapter for missed items.

The Closing Stretch: Escape to Greater Good

Escape provides a short collectible stop before Entrenched, Decapitation, and Greater Good close the story. Keep late missions focused on cover, weapon range, and tactical equipment instead of trying an unfamiliar approach near the finale.

Greater Good awards Park as a Base Operator. If an earlier challenge or item is missing, replaying its mission offers a direct route to cleanup.

4 Complete Chapters Without Missing Challenges

Use the first run to make steady story progress, but slow down when a mission's achievement or optional content depends on a specific action.

Before entering a chapter, check which challenge or collectible objective applies there.

● In Mayhem, watch for paratroopers and shoot them before they reach the ground to pursue Skeet Shooting.

● In Out in the Cold, approach the kitchen encounter with Safety's On in mind; it requires clearing the area without firing on Hardened difficulty or higher.

● In Following Orders, search for all four Notes and four pieces of contraband, and avoid harming civilians while looking for the defector.

● In Hired Gun, keep the train-car challenge in view, while in Losing Ground, look for a chance to use three mortar rounds for 15 consecutive kills.

Continue at a normal pace when objectives are clear and your route is manageable. Pause to search when optional content is nearby, and don't force a challenge if the required encounter has already passed; mission replay gives you another attempt.

5 Check Progress and Plan Your Next Step

Track two items as you complete chapters: which missions are available to replay and which reward names you have earned. This simple check helps separate story progress from achievement and collectible cleanup.

If a collectible total stalls, check whether you searched the correct chapter and return to that mission. If a challenge doesn't count, verify its stated condition and difficulty, then adjust one factor at a time so you can distinguish a missed requirement from a combat or exploration issue.

After Greater Good, replay Following Orders, Stranded, or Escape for missing collectibles before moving on. Players shifting to other modes can review CoD MW4 Bot Lobby details and decide whether it fits their session plans.
