The first major weapon tuning pass has shaken up Modern Warfare 4's early loadouts. If you've been practising in MW4 Bot Lobbies, your favourite rifle may feel different now, especially when your shots land on the upper body. The update aims to make damage more consistent across hit locations while giving several close-range weapons a lift. It doesn't mean every old favourite is finished, though. Some simply need a fresh look before you take them into your next match.
Assault rifles face a reshuffle
The Han 86 still has plenty going for it. Its maximum damage range has climbed from 1,120 to 1,200, an increase of 7 percent. But neck and upper torso multipliers have each dropped by 9 percent, so those high hits aren't quite as rewarding. The Kastov 762 moves in the other direction, gaining 11 percent maximum damage range and reaching 1,050. Give it a try in those mid-range lanes where the Han used to feel like the obvious choice. The Oden has a tougher time: its neck and upper torso multipliers fall by 8 percent to 1.1, while lower torso damage drops by 9 percent. Its Sentinel Apex attachment also loses range, which could make familiar engagements feel less predictable.
Close-range picks and attachment changes
On smaller maps, the ISO Nightshade and VEL 46 deserve another look. Both receive a 5 percent increase to arm and hand damage multipliers. For the ISO, those multipliers now sit at 0.95. That matters when an opponent is moving across your screen and your shots clip an arm rather than the chest. Elsewhere, the Hyeon Burst's Hyperburst Apex attachment trades some punch for reach: full-auto maximum damage falls by 8 percent to 34, but maximum damage range rises by 26 percent to 1,220. Its first mid-damage range has been removed. Patriot XMR users get a more straightforward benefit, with smaller recoil penalties on the EXP Haste 80L light barrel and FJX Fury IV skeleton grip.
Other weapons and fight-saving perks
There are changes beyond the usual rifle and SMG picks. The APOC-338 loses mid damage, minimum damage and some reach, while the FiNN LMG loses first mid-damage range and upper-arm damage. The Type 73 gets a modest boost instead: its Assault Apex attachment now deals 20 minimum damage, up 5 percent. Shotgun players should note that the Warlord's 12G Slug Rounds have a shorter second mid-damage range of 810. Quick Fix works differently, too. Taking damage now interrupts its health regeneration. Possum also has tighter activation restrictions when the opposing team is nearby or four minutes haven't passed.
Put your loadout through its paces
Before jumping into ranked, spend a few minutes testing what you actually use. Try the firing range first, then compare the same build in a private match. Pay attention to arm hits, recoil and the distance at which targets start taking longer to drop. If you're using Bot Lobbies MW4 to practise, it's also a chance to see how those numbers feel against moving targets. Keep the Han if it still suits you, but don't overlook the Kastov or the newly forgiving SMGs.
