In MLB The Show 26, Spooky Series Mark McGwire is a free 99 OVR Red Diamond first baseman earned through Spooky Program progression. The Tuesday reward went live around noon PT on October 27, 2026, giving Diamond Dynasty players a high-end first-base option without spending stubs. That lets you keep MLB The Show 26 Stubs for other roster needs, including pitching or a bench upgrade.

McGwire is one of three 99 OVR Spooky Week cards available through gameplay, alongside J.R. Richard and Willie Mays. The key distinction is how you earn each one: McGwire and Richard are tied to the Spooky Program, while Mays comes from the Spooky Conquest map.

1 How Do You Unlock Mark McGwire in MLB The Show 26

You earn McGwire by progressing through the Spooky Program; he is its Tuesday reward, not the 20-point J.R. Richard milestone. The program adds new Moments, Missions, and other objectives daily, with points moving you along a reward ladder of cards, packs, and cosmetics.

The listed rewards give you useful checkpoints before McGwire. At 20 points, you can claim 99 OVR pitcher Spooky Series J.R. Richard and 4,000 XP. The 25-point reward is a Werewolf icon, followed by a Deluxe pack at 30 points and an MLB Draft Deluxe Pack at 35 points.

◆ Don't assume the 35-point mark unlocks McGwire; that milestone awards the MLB Draft Deluxe Pack.

Check the in-game reward track for McGwire's exact point requirement before planning your sessions. The daily release schedule means logging in regularly gives you access to new point opportunities sooner, while Moments and Missions provide different ways to make progress.

2 Can McGwire Replace a Marketplace First Baseman

He can cover first base without a Marketplace purchase if his power-first hitting fits your lineup. The card-pool ranking places him around tenth among 655 first basemen, which makes him a strong free option, but a high rating alone doesn't guarantee he suits your hitting approach or roster.

That distinction matters because a free card saves stubs only when you would otherwise spend them on the same role. High-end first basemen can cost tens of thousands of stubs, and top Milestone cards can reach six figures. Using McGwire at first can leave more of your budget for positions where the Spooky rewards offer fewer choices.

◆ McGwire suits a lineup that needs a power threat at a corner-infield spot.

◆ If you already have a 99 OVR first baseman you prefer, consider moving that player to designated hitter and using McGwire at first.

Check your current lineup before treating his card as an automatic upgrade. If first base is already settled, the practical gain may be the stubs you can keep available for a starting pitcher or bench piece. Spooky Week includes Richard as a 99 OVR pitcher, but that still leaves other pitching and roster needs to weigh against your existing cards.

3 How Should You Progress Through Spooky Week

Combine newly available Moments with regular games, then let Missions advance during modes you already play. Moments usually take a few minutes each, while Missions ask you to play games and record stats, so this approach can build points without setting aside a single long session.

Conquest can support two reward paths at once. The Spooky Conquest map awards Willie Mays, XP, and packs, and program Missions can often progress during those games too. Playing on an easier difficulty is a lower-pressure option when your priority is completing objectives rather than challenging yourself.

◆ Clear new Moments when they appear, then work on Missions through Ranked, Events, or Conquest games.

◆ Review Deluxe and MLB Draft Deluxe Pack contents before selling; keep cards you need and consider selling duplicates or unused cards for stubs.

Claim Richard at 20 points, pursue McGwire through the program track, and play Conquest for Mays if that card fits your roster. After you've checked which free rewards cover your needs, compare the remaining gaps with your stub balance and explore cheap MLB The Show 26 Stubs as one option for planning a targeted roster addition.
